productive creativity:

how to boost your creativity, your business and your life

Presentation Notes

These notes are provided as a follow-up companion to the "Productive Creativity" presentation.  They are not designed to provide comprehensive stand-alone information.

INTRO

- LADY IN RED

Ø      MEN FIND WOMEN IN RED MORE ATTRACTIVE OVERALL, MORE SEXUALLY ATTRACTIVE AND WOULD SPEND MORE MONEY ON THEM.

Ø      WOMEN…NOT SO MUCH.

Ø      RED DOESN’T AFFECT PERCEPTION OF LIKEABILITY, KINDNESS OR INTELLIGENCE.

- WARM HANDS, WARM HEART

Ø      PEOPLE WITH WARM HANDS ARE MORE LIKELY TO RATE SOMEONE ELSE AS SOCIABLE AND GENEROUS.

Ø      COLD HANDS, SELFISH AND ANTISOCIAL.

BIOLOGY

      - TRAITS OF THE CREATIVE

Ø      CONVERGENT V. DIVERGENT THINKING

Ø      LOWER LATENT INHIBITION

Ø      HIGHER IQ

Ø      POSSIBLY MENTAL ILLNESS

NOT BIOLOGY . . . TIPS

f      NIGHTTIME IS THE RIGHT TIME

Ø      10:04 PM IS THE MOST LIKELY TIME FOR A EUREKA MOMENT.

Ø      4:33 PM IS THE LEAST CREATIVE TIME.

f      INCUBATION EFFECT

Ø      DELIBERATE USE OF BREAKS - have to be at your discretion not just interruptions.

Ø      Completely different task – a break in which one is working on a completely different task is more beneficial than working on a SIMILAR task or continuing the existing one.

Ø      CAT NAPS

Ø      SHOWERS

Ø      WASH HANDS IN WARM WATER: (SEE ABOVE STUDY.)  WARM HANDS CAN MAKE YOU MORE RECEPTIVE TO PEOPLE AND, POSSIBLY, IDEAS.  PLUS, IT KILLS GERMS!

f      GET HAPPY

Ø      A GOOD SMILE CAN IMPROVE YOUR MOOD.  HAPPINESS-PRODUCING SMILES: CORNERS OF YOUR MOUTH GO UP AND YOUR EYBROWS AND THE SKIN BETWEEN YOUR UPPER EYELID AND BROW COME DOWN SLIGHTLY.

f      peppermint -  NOT JUST FOR CANDY CANES

Ø      THE SMELL OF PEPPERMINT INCREASES CONCENTRATION BY STIMULATING THE BRAIN.  RESEARCH HAS PROVEN IT TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN CAFFEINE!

f      LASTING LOVE

Ø      FROM LASTING LOVE: THE SECRETS OF GROWING A VITAL, CONSCIOUS RELATIONSHIP  BY KATHRYN AND GAY HENDRICKS.

1.     BECOME A MASTER OF COMMITMENT

o        SPOT, ACKNOWLEDGE AND CLAIM OWNERSHIP OF UNCONSCIOUS COMMITMENTS THAT MAKE YOU SABBOTAGE THE RELATIONSHIP.

                                                                                                             i.      EXAMPLE: “FROM THE EVIDENCE, I APPEAR TO BE COMMITTED TO PHILANDERING AND APPEAR TO BE COMMITTED TO GETTING CAUGHT.  I’M COMMITTED TO FINDING OUT IF PEOPLE WILL STILL LOVE ME IF I’M BAD.”

o        MAKE COMMITMENTS YOU CAN KEEP…ABOUT THINGS YOU CAN CONTROL.

                                                                                                             i.      NOT: I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER.

ii.      BUT: I WILL TELL YOU WHEN I’M FEELING LOVING AND WHEN I’M NOT.

2.     BECOME EMOTIONALLY TRANSPARENT

o        ELIMINATE ALL BARRIERS TO SPEAKING AND HEARING THE TRUTH ABOUT EVERYTHING.

o        AUTHORS REPORT THAT IT PRODUCES HUGE BURSTS OF CREATIVE ENERGY IN EVERYONE WHO TRIES IT.

3.     BREAK THE CYCLE OF BLAME AND CRITICISM

o        THEY TEACH EACH PARTNER TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN THE RELATIONSHIP, ESPECIALLY IF IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S THE OTHER PERSON’S FAULT.

o        EG:

                                                                                                             i.      NOT: “WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO ME?”

ii.      BUT: “WHAT AM I DOING TO CAUSE OR INVITE THAT BEHAVIOR?”

4.     BECOME A MASTER OF VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL APPRECIATION

o        APPRECIATE EACH OTHER SPONTANEOUSLY AND FREQUENTLY.

o        SAY BOTH SIMPLE AND COMPLEX APPRECIATIONS:

o        EG:

                                                                                                             i.      SIMPLE: I LIKE THE WAY YOU DID YOUR HAIR TODAY.

ii.      COMPLEX:  THROUGHOUT OUR TIME TOGETHER, I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY AMAZED BY HOW GENEROUS YOU ARE.

o        EXERCISE:  SPEAK A HEARTFELT 10-SECOND APPRECIATION TO THE OTHER PERSON FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN TO SIGNIFY A COMMITMENT TO APPRECIATION AND TO OPEN THE FLOW OF APPRECIATION.  NOT TO GET A PARTICULAR RESULT OR REWARD FROM THE OTHER PERSON.

5.     FOCUS ON YOUR CREATIVITY

o        TAKE YOUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM FIXING THE OTHER PERSON.

o        FOCUS ON EXPRESSING YOUR OWN CREATIVITY.

o        EVEN 1 HR/WK WILL PRODUCE RESULTS.

f      FUN EXERCISES

Ø      MUSIC DISSECTION: LISTEN TO JUST ONE INSTRUMENT IN A SONG.

Ø      SMELLAVISION: WALK DOWN THE STREET AND FOCUS ON THE SMELLS.

Ø      MORNING PAGES: WRITE A TRAIN-OF-THOUGHT JOURNAL ENTRY EVERY AM BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.  [FROM THE ARTISTS WAY  BY JULIA CAMERON]

f      BOOKS rEFERENCED

Ø      tHE ARTISTS WAY BY JULIA CAMERON

Ø      LASTING LOVE: THE SECRETS OF GROWING A VITAL CONSCIOUS RELATIONSHIP BY KATHLYN AND GAY HENDRICKS
